DescriptionGot this when I was about 15. To make a long story short, I heard Kirby had a listed phone number so I called him up. After chatting for 15 minutes or so he actually invited me over to his house for lunch that weekend. Thank God my mom was a saint, she drove me up to Thousand oaks (we were living in LA at the time) and sat in the kitchen with Roz kirby drinking coffee while Jack signed a stack (too big a stack, as I recall) of my comics and talked to me about comics. After lunch he gave me a portfolio and then sat down and did this sketch. What a great day that was.Social/Sharing |

Thats a great story Scott! Stories like this are what, to me, made Jack the King.

WOW! I am truly enivous!! Your mom is a super lady too. What a story to always have. I was in Canago Park, CA. in the summer of 76. But completely forgot at age 14 Kirby was living near by! If I only had thought to look up his number! I would had called him too. If only I could had met him. Oh well I'm good friends today with Joe Sinnott, Romita SE, Herb Trimpe, etc. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Sigh! Congrads! Long Live the King & Queen!
